Commonly referred to as spike moss, the species of plants known as Selaginella are not really moss nor fern at all. With a unique appearance, Selaginella loves a moist and highly humid environment, like a bathroom, and also requires its potting mix to be moist for best results. Considered as a fern ally and have similar care requirements as a fern, brown and shriveled leaves often indicate low humidity.
